What are the most common cooktop repairs in Tacoma?
A flat, induction style cooktop is an elegant addition to any kitchen. Designed to be easy to clean and easy to work with, cooktops are supposed to make your life better. If they’re not working, however, they may do the opposite.
The most common cooktop problems we see with our customers include:
- Cooktop won’t turn on
- Cooktop doesn’t produce enough heat or doesn’t heat evenly
- The cooktop works at first, but shuts off while cooking
- One burner doesn’t work, but the others do
Each problem has several possible causes. Our technicians are experienced with all major brands of cooktops and know how to diagnose the cause of your problem and repair it. We can perform almost all cooktop repairs the same day you call, in a single service visit. Often, these repairs are inexpensive—and far less than the cost of a new cooktop or stove.
Why doesn’t my cooktop turn on?
When a cooktop doesn’t turn on at all, it may be because of a frayed or damaged cord, or there could be something wrong inside of the cooktop itself. Often, our technicians can replace a single component and get your cooktop working again immediately.
Only one of my cooktop burners does’t work. What’s wrong?
In most cases, if a single burner is broken it means that the heating element is loose. A technician can open up the cooktop and quickly reconnect it if this is the case. They will also check to see if there is an underlying problem that caused the loose connection, and can repair it if needed.
In some cases, the entire heating element may have failed, in which case it’s a quick fix to swap out a new one.
Why does my cooktop shut off in the middle of cooking?
This is usually a problem with the sensors inside the cooktop. Every induction cooktop has heat sensors, and will shut down early if they detect excessive temperatures. If the sensors are malfunctioning, the range may turn off even if the temperatures are normal for cooking. This repair is generally not very expensive and can make a dramatic difference in how convenient it is to use your cooktop.
Can I troubleshoot my cooktop problem myself?
Yes, and we encourage all homeowners to check for some basic issues that are easy to correct. For example:
- Most cooktops will have their own dedicated outlet behind the stove. Is the cooktop securely plugged in?
- Does the outlet work with other devices?
- Has the circuit breaker been tripped for the outlet?
- Some cooktops are finicky in terms of which pans work best. Generally, aluminum and copper pans will heat most evenly, while stainless steel and ceramic-coated pans may heat unevenly. All pans need to be the same size diameter (or smaller) as the burner they’re on. If the pan is too large, it will not heat evenly.
If none of these is the issue, you will usually need to call a technician. The problem is most likely an electrical component inside the cooktop assembly, which will need to be diagnosed and replaced. Our technicians will respond to cooktop service calls with most standard parts in-hand, to make your repair as fast and easy as possible.
